My Lens

Dreamcatcher

Roni Delmonico

For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated by abstract art. It is elusive and confusing to many. I often catch myself standing back and listening when I am in a gallery where abstract art is the focus. People scratch their heads in wonderment, often likening some of the greatest pieces I've seen, to that of a kindergardener's painting or sculpture. It is not easy for many people to grasp the concept of art that is less documentary and more conceptual and I find this to be true even more so in photography. I have spoken to countless photographers whose beautiful documentary and landscape pieces sell consistently, but who cannot move their more abstract pieces for the life of them.  I feel a little sad about that.  It is such a wonderful vehicle for the imagination.

Abstract art is described quite simply as a departure from reality. It may be a little harder to connect to, but I think it's worth it because it stretches the mind and it works on the imagination. I crave experiences like that. It's a personal quest from both the creative and the consumer side of me.
