Just outside my bedroom window there is a very beautiful old oak tree. Early this morning I lay for quite awhile watching its leaves flutter on the breeze, letting my thoughts wander at will. Most nights, I leave the shades open so the light of a new day can wake us up gently. I've never much cared for alarm clocks. That tree feels like a guardian and I far prefer to open my eyes in response to his softer voice. "You are safe and secure here", he whispers. How I strive not to take that for granted. The squirrels and chipmunks are particularly fond of chasing each other up there and I enjoy watching them for awhile before my feet ever touch the floor. It reminds me of another picture window in another time and place ... memories of my first experience with falling snow and animals in the wild, play at the edges of my mind.
Beyond that tree is my neighbor's little garden. She grows vegetables and flowers and has these beautiful plants that look like paper lanterns. They turn bright orange at this time of year and I found a big bunch of them on my back steps yesterday. Isn't that lovely?
Today, I sit down to write and my thoughts turn to all the little things that make up my life. I drink in the colors around me, watch these visions pass by outside my window, allow the small marvels of my life to touch me in a big way and I hear... May I be so bold?
The world is nothing more than all the tiny things you've left behind........
